En la pandemia de COVID19 el diagnóstico rápido y preciso es crítico para la evolución de pacientes con síndrome de distrés respiratorio agudo. estas pruebas diagnósticas se puede realizar usando los aparatos de gasometría de sangre con menú expandido.
Mientras que mayoría de las personas infectadas con COVID19 desarrolla la versión leve o asintomática de la enfermedad, 14% desarrolla la enfermedad severa que requiere la hospitalización y un soporte respiratorio con oxígeno. De estos pacientes, 5% requiere admisión a la unidad de cuidados intensivos. Entre los casos severos encontraremos síndrome de enfermedad respiratoria aguda, sepsis y shock séptico e insuficiencia orgánica múltiple (lesión renal aguda y lesión cardiaca).
